Silver Spring, MD– Today, former U.S. Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn announced the launch of Dunn’s Democracy Defenders. The new organization will activate Dunn’s historic grassroots fundraising network to defeat Donald Trump and anti-democracy MAGA extremists and elect leaders who will strengthen our democracy in Congress, state legislatures, Governor’s mansions, and other critical halls of power across the country.
Dunn, a best-selling author who protected the U.S. Capitol and defended democracy with his bare hands on January 6, 2021, dedicated himself to holding MAGA extremists accountable.
Dunn testified before the January 6 Committee, wrote a best-selling book “Standing My Ground” about his efforts to hold MAGA accountable, and ran for Congress in his home of Maryland, where he raised over $5 million in a matter of weeks, a historic sum that is testament to how his voice on democracy issues resonates with pro-democracy donors across the country.
Dunn is now bringing his voice and dynamic grassroots fundraising network directly to the fight against anti-democracy extremists.

- Activate Harry’s national grassroots network to raise money and defeat insurrectionists and support Democracy Defenders;
- Deploy Harry to key districts across the country, allowing him to campaign side by side with Democracy Defenders.

The medal is the second-highest award a civilian can get and is given by the president to “U.S. citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.” Officer Dunn said at the time, “I think it’s important to note that I accept this medal not as a Capitol Hill Police Officer, a job I have held for over 15 years. Rather, I am here as an American. What I did on January 6, I did as a police officer. It was my job. But what I have done every day since, I do because I am an American.”
Dunn’s best-selling book, Standing My Ground, talks about his experience on January 6th and in its aftermath, and calls out Donald Trump and MAGA extremists for stoking the violent insurrection.

Harry Dunn is the son of a United States Air Force veteran and a former insurance claims analyst, and a brother to four sisters. He was born and raised in Prince George’s County and graduated from James Madison University in 2005 with a B.S. degree in Health Science with a concentration in public health education.
A proud Duke Dog, Harry was a starter on the offensive line at JMU for four years and helped lead the team to their first ever national championship. He is a devoted father of one daughter, Daphne.
